Highlights of FY2011 (July 1, 2010- June 30, 2011)
After-School
- Participated in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program through Morgan State University.
- Partnered again with Camp Fire USA promoting their Hold onto Health, a healthy diet and lifestyle curriculum that was taught two instructors two days per week.
- Worked on combating childhood obesity and the dependence on video games for entertainment by stressing literacy and athletic participation during free time activities.
- Fourteen work-study students contributed to the ASEP this year from Goucher College.
- Twelve music studio workshops were conducted by students from Towson University Audio Production Class. Children recorded their version of the children’s movie Ratatoulie.
- Ten children walked in the Annual Mayor’s Christmas Parade.
Access Art/Youthlight Project
- 15 students enrolled.
- Two second-year students served as mentors/assistants and received stipends.
- Learned basic composition techniques and darkroom techniques.
- Learned screen printing.
- Worked with digital cameras, Photoshop and other computer software.
- Held winter and spring show of their works.
Study Buddy
- Twelve students received individual tutoring from October through May
- Twelve tutors: three high school students and 11 members from the community, one of which was a former student.

Adult Basic Education
- 49 students have enrolled.
- Four sessions have been held since July.
- Twenty-one unduplicated students have participated in the program.
- Eleven students took the practice GED test.
Seedco
- 534 families have been screened from July to June.
- 450 families have been enrolled into a benefit(s) program.
- $1.8 million has been invested into the community.
Energy Assistance – Baltimore Department of Housing
- 352 individuals were seen by Josephine Battaglia and received assistance with turn off notices and received support through the MEAP (Maryland Energy Assistance Program).
AA
- Alcoholic’s Anonymous and Al Anon meetings have been a positive addition to the center’s offerings.

Senior Lunch
- 12 luncheons held from July to June.
- 441 seniors served from July to June.
- Two 5th grade classes from Calvert School volunteered in two separate lunches.
Summer Enrichment Program
- 30 enrolled.
- 15 camp scholarships awarded.
- Activities include tennis lessons, golf clinics and field trips in and around Baltimore.
Computer Classes for Seniors
Public Computer Usage
- 351 people accessed the community computers for job searches, email, applying for unemployment etc.

Outreach
Thanksgiving
- More than 90 food baskets with gift cards donated by St. David’s Church and distributed to needy families in the community.
Toy Drive
- Local merchants and members of the community donated gifts for the annual Christmas party, and Calvert School held a toy drive to benefit the Family Center.
Christmas Party
- 250 tickets distributed.
- 140 children under 12 received gifts.
Christmas Angels
- 135 children were adopted for the Christmas holiday by members of the community and St. David's Church.
Clothing Giveaway
- More than 100 bags of gently used clothes were delivered by Calvert School, and the Family Center held a clothing giveaway for those in need.
Easter
- More than 90 food baskets with gift cards were donated by St. David’s Church and distributed to needy families.
Flower Arranging
- More than 20 individuals made flower baskets for Easter under the direction of volunteers from St. David’s Church.
